I believe that she is making a political statement. Her voice as a woman counts. Here is a woman acknowledging she too has a right and that her view of change in Iraq can be constructed through her ability to use autonomy of her voice i.e. the power to vote. This is evolution, and I do agree with you that there is a cultural shift. Even though we talked about social, class, and culture and identity, a lot of what we discussed proved that the globalization of Western culture has surfaced itself within the Middle East. Therefore what has transpired was simply bound to happen. In essence it is natural.
