Biden Calls Ties Between U.S. and Israel ‘Unshakable’

  1. Unfortunately, when it comes down to it, the US is all talk in condemning the illegal settlements that the Israelis continue to build. Previous similar statements made by Hilary Clinton in her past visits only further support the notion that the US, while aware of such measures that are undermining peace talks, are still not willing to act on such statements due to their unwavering support of a major ally, and the large Israel lobby. A recent article in the LA Times further calls for action by the US, in criticizing Clinton's address to the American Pro-Israel Lobby in DC on Monday. Clinton bold move to outright say that "...perpetuating the status quo with the Palestinians does not serve Israel's long-term security or U.S. strategic interests, and that "unilateral statements and actions" such as announcing new settlement construction undermine prospects for peace," but still talk is talk and it is not enough. The US is too afraid to take action, such as cutting down on the $3 billion in annual support, because as Clinton stated, "when we strengthen Israel's security, we strengthen America's security." Our national security interests in regards to Iran play too much into our support of Israel and cowardly approach to scolding their illegal actions. But then again as the Editorial writer concluded his criticism of Cinton's address, it is now up to Obama to drive the point home that lack of progress in the peace process "not only fuels Arab anger with the United States but undermines our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan."
